MEETING THE GOALS OF OUR GUILD

Some of the ways we promote and advance handweaving include our Learning Challenge, Equipment for Loan, and an extensive Library of weaving/fiber arts books all discussed below.

Study Groups are another important aspect of our Guild. See our Study Groups page for further information.

Nettie's 2007 INITIAL RELATIVITY Challenge

Initial Relativity Challenge projects were presented at our 2007 Holiday Party. Nettie went beyond her initials designing and weaving this beautiful runner with trees and stars. (Actually she wove a second runner with angels and stars.) She used cotton-linen yarn on a 10-harness draw system using a Swedish weave. Her initials and how they relate to her project are:

N = night; C = cotton-linen; B = blue; O = opphamta technique; T T = tall trees; S = silver stars

Beautiful work Nettie!

  A Learning Challenge - 2008

After presentations of our 2007 challenge "Initial Relativity" projects at our holiday party, members were challenged for 2008 ...

PHOTO FINISH

Guidelines for this year's challenge are:

  1. Choose a photograph or a postcard or a picture from a magazine that appeals to you.
  2. Identify the colors in the picture (don't forget the neutrals).
  3. Make at least 3 wraps (wraping fiber around a cardboard strip) to experiment with colors, color placement, proportion, stripes, etc.
  4. Design and weave a project inspired by the picture and your wraps.
  5. At our meeting in December 2008, we will have Show & Tell, asking members to show and discuss briefly: a) the picture you chose; b) the wraps you did and what you learned from them; and c) your finished project.

More information is available at our monthly Guild meetings or contact Challenge Coordinator, Barbara H or email the guild with your questions at: IllinoisPrairieWeavers@yahoo.com

Join the fun! Be part of the holiday meeting show & tell December 2008.

Some of this year's additions to the Guild Library

Seven new books have been added to our library this year. Along with our regular annual additions, and donations, some are specifically in memory of members lost this past year on subjects they enjoyed weaving.
